Mirroring Most animal people have a sense that animals can mirror or take on mannerisms or even physical conditions from their humans. The first story in my book, Beyond Words, is an extreme case of this about a cat who took on his person's liver disease, unknown to her, and subsequently died of it, while she became disease free. Some more subtle examples would be a dog who is fearful and defensive around strangers, reflecting the owner's similar attitude. Mirroring can also be positive, e.g., the high energy dog who is matched up with a similar owner. Mirroring can occur because an animal and person who have similar qualities and issues, positive and negative, sense the similarities and are drawn to each other. It can also develop over time after the animal and person get together.
If you discover mirroring that you don't want, have a talk with your animal about it. Explain that you appreciate what he or she has done and is willing to do for you, but that a much healthier and better arrangement would be for the animal to let go of any negative mirroring and instead be a positive mirror for you to then emulate. If you do find negative mirroring, i.e., both you and your animal are worriers, do all you can to shift that quality in both yourself and your animal. For example, for worrying you might do aerobic exercise for both of you (jogging walks?) and also do some flower essences. If you have further thoughts or questions on this issue, or any stories to illustrate mirroring, please send them to me.
Talking with Horses
"Ever since I adopted Yogi, my Mustang, and started trail riding, I wanted my husband Mike and I to be able to enjoy horses and trail rides together. I horse shopped for a long time before I found Opie, a 13 year old red roan appaloosa who was steady, calm and kind. Mike and Opie had become used to each other in the arena and were ready for the trail. On our first outing, we rode up our driveway and prepared to go down a steep hill as cyclists whirred around the bend in the road. Opie was perfect. I breathed a sigh of relief because I knew Opie would take care of Mike. As we headed down our neighbors road, I reminded Mike to have Opie pick up his head a bit. Opie had a bad habit of barreling downhill. Mike literally said, "Pick up your head Opie." I was amazed because I had started to say something like, Mike, shorten your reins and help him stay balanced. I never needed to finish my directions because Mike and Opie understood each other perfectly."
"I used talking with images in the following situation. I had just turned my horses Lucca and Yogi loose in an "L" shaped pasture up on Wild Horse Valley. They galloped the length of the pasture and then veered around the corner out of sight. Soon, I heard hoof beats and they were coming back towards me. I had to do a double take because they were on the WRONG SIDE OF THE FENCE. Someone had left the gate at the far end open! My horses were headed up the lane towards the main facility where a dressage clinic was being held. My heart was in my throat. I pretended to be casual and walked towards the fence line halters in hand, thinking I could catch one of them. When they saw me heading them off, they stopped, pranced and snorted before galloping off in the opposite direction, headed into mountainous open space. I thought, well, this is it. There will really be wild horses living in Wild Horse Valley again. I took a deep breath and I pictured them turning right at the end of the fence line, then making another sharp right back in through the gate. I pictured it, and they did it! Phew. As they made themselves comfortable and started grazing, I walked to the far end and secured the gate as if the entire thing had not even happened. I looked around to see if anyone had just seen what I saw, I would have welcomed the confirmation!" Fiona's Story "I live in England, just outside Ascot, Berkshire. About two years ago, I went to an animal communication course over here. To be honest, I had no idea what I would learn, but anything to do with animals was OK by me. We were asked to bring photos of our little fury friends and we were taught how to focus our minds through meditation so we could receive their messages. We then split into pairs and began to practice receiving messages and telling each other what they were. All I can say is, I was blown away by what happened to me that day. I was able to give messages to two people from their pets. These messages made no sense to me at the time of receiving them, but it made perfect sense to their owners. For one message that came through, I was sure the person was going to say I was talking a sack load of baloney! I was looking at a photo of her little dog. The dog was placing an image in my mind of her and her owner sitting, looking into the distance in front of them. The dog said, "I love this bit of the day, with her arm round me". Then (and I had to apologize for giving such a stupid piece of information, but I promised I would say whatever came into my head), I heard the words, "and I love my wine gums". Wine gums are like little firm jelly sweets. Once again I said to the lady in front of me, "I'm sorry I know I am probably talking a load of nonsense but I felt I just had to say it". This was her response."/p> 'Oh my God! I have such a busy hectic life and there is only one moment in the day that my dog and I share together with no one else. It is when I go to the stables to feed and check on my daughter's pony. I take the dog along for company. She sits next to me in the front passenger seat. As I drive, I have my left arm draped over her shoulder as we both look out of the front windscreen at the journey ahead. When we stop at the stables, I always give her a little wine gum. It is just something we have always done.' "We just both looked at each other with our mouths gaping. How could I have known any of that? There is no way I could possibly have made it up. It took all my courage to mention the wine gums. Actually, that was the moment when I accepted that this amazing communication thing does truly exist. The animals have been enjoying it for an eternity. Thanks to people like you and the course lecturer here in the UK, we too can share in this magic." Fiona
Best Buds This eight-week-old wolf cub, Beldaran, was adopted by the Rottweiler, Ulrock, when she was just four days old at the Kisma Preserve in Mt Desert, Maine, USA, after she was rejected by her parents. Once Beldaran is full size and can fend for herself, she will be gradually introduced her to a group of adult wolves at the park. The organization takes in creatures of all breeds and all sizes.
Heather commented, "Ever since Beldaran's arrival he had been trying to get involved in everything. He would clean her and when she was making her puppy whimpering he would bound over to investigate. He had such a massive interest in her that we decided he would be the best option and we could bottle feed the wolf. It worked out brilliantly." Ulrok has become so close to wolf cub Beldarin they even howl in unison. Preserve director Heather said, "You just can't be in a bad mood when these two are around." Lost Animal Search Dogs Dogs are now being trained to do search and rescue exclusively for lost animals. This is a growing field and the success of these dogs is amazing. The website to find trained tracking dogs or learn about how to train your own dog is: Missingpetpartnership.comThree of my students have gone through this training. One of them, Cathy Orde in Wyoming just sent me a link to a story of how her search dog, Zoe, a Katrina rescue, found two small dogs who were ejected from a car accident that was fatal for their owner. The dogs were lost in the desert and no one knew what to do.
Cathy wrote me the following note about the case: When Zoe started tracking Sammie in the dark, Maddie was following behind her on a leash. I was also doing animal communication with the dogs. Sammie was a tough one. The first day I felt blocked and a lot of fear from him. I continued trying and the next day, everything softened up, my heart felt very warm and I knew Sammie was listening. Frankenfood Frankenfood refers to genetically modified food (GMO) and genetically engineered food. The following links are articles and websites about Frankenfood. If you do not already realize that is it dangerous to eat this stuff or feed it to your animals, then it would be worth your time to read these resources. In the US, unless you buy organic you are buying Frankenfood, especially anything with grains. In Europe, people are a bit more savvy, but many people are still ignorant of the health risks of eating Frankenfoods. Two articles on Frankenfoods: GMO Information sites:
Flower Essences Flower essences are subtle yet very effective for helping shift emotional and physical conditions.. The essence is not an extract, rather a flower is placed in water then later removed, and the water is said to take on the essence of the flower. There are essences of flowers from all over the world: Dutch, Alaskan, Desert, Australian, American, English -the list goes on. Each flower has a unique quality to help heal and balance. Essences are used for humans and for animals for every type of issue, and are especially helpful if you have a block. Essences can be ordered with an alcohol or nonalcoholic preservative. When I do an animal consultation and feel that flower essences will help the animal, I select the formula to use intuitively. Then I have Patricia Meyer, in California, fill the formulas. Patricia teaches courses in the use of flower essences and does both short ($58 + essence) and full ($100 + essence) consultations for people only. I am using some of her formulas for myself and really seeing a shift. You might want to try an essence formula if you are looking for change in some area of your life Patricia's website is http://www.patsgarden.com/ In Europe I refer people who are interested in flower essences for their animals and themselves to Gerrie Huijts, a friend, former student, and professional Animal Communicator in the Netherlands. Gerrie chooses the remedies intuitively and has a full range of essences in stock. I have used her formulas for myself and many of my animals with great results. Gerrie's email is g.huijts@chello.nl
