Wild Horses

Right in the middle of the big rains in California last month, I flew down to San Diego to go study with horse trainer, Carolyn Resnick, for a few days. Despite the weather, I had a fantastic time. I am more convinced than ever that Carolyn’s method of training is revolutionary in the horse world.  No one else that I have found comes close to what she does. Her method is nonviolent and actually makes your horse fall in love with you. If you have not read her book, Naked Liberty, I recommend it. She grew up in the desert of California and as a teen had the unique opportunity to hang out with wild mustangs, three summers in a row. From those experiences, of becoming one with a wild herd and being totally accepted by them to the point of riding them with no tack, she developed her method. I went to learn from Carolyn because I wanted to implement the method with my own horses better and be able to help my clients use it for their horses. I am writing a detailed account of my impressions of her work; out soon….. Carolyn’s blog is

Mustang Crisis

It looks like the rationale for rounding up 2000 mustangs in NV in the dead of winter, causing mares to abort and losing about 70 horses so far, is all about money. Cows make money on public land range and horses don’t. The BLM and the Obama administration have hijacked our wild horses in the US and they want to wipe them out so they can raise and sell cows on US public land. We can however stop this (just like we can stop all the other garbage going on) if we get active. So please please please don’t give up on the mustangs. Go to the following sites and do the suggested actions. There are lots of ways to help and some are very creative. Do it for the wild ones who are now being tortured in the BLM holding pens without us being able to get in and observe and monitor. Do it for the ones still free who we can still save.

And please also send this to any horse lover, horse sites, horse anything you know. Let’s do this for them.

Cute Photo and YouTube

I don’t know what I would do without all the funny photos and youtubes I get that serve as an antidote to this griding reality we have to deal with. TGFYT (thank goddess for YouTube). Here are some more:

Your Stories

I’ve had another experience with my animals that tells me they do listen to us.   I have four cats, 3 males and one female.  Two of the boys like to bug the female, Bella, just like little brothers bugging their sister just for fun.  She reacts in the worst possible way, hissing and running from them, which just eggs them on.  One of the boys insists on supervising all activity in the house, and he just has to run up and greet Bella when she comes in from outside.  Normally this sets off a round of hissing, which escalates into fighting.  Finally I explained to her that he just needs to greet her when she comes in, to make sure she’s OK, and if she would let him do that, everything would be fine.  Darned if she didn’t start allowing him to greet her without reacting negatively to it — we’ve had no more squabbles in that situation.         Dianne

Next Practice Group Date

The next practice group is March 10. Please sign up early, at least a week before. And if you want the group to work with an animal send me the photo to distribute. Questions? Call or email me. Note: you have to have had a beginning course from me or somebody to do the practice group. If you dont have that but would like to join in, you can schedule a phone tutoring session with me to get the basic training.
